Bakers Corner Baking Powder Double acting 230g
Baking powder contains baking soda, along with cream of tartar, an acidic compound, and sometimes some kind of starch as well (usually corn starch).
When combined with liquids and wet ingredients such as in a cake batter for example, the baking powder reacts and forms carbon dioxide bubbles, which is what causes your cakes and muffins to rise. If a recipe uses self-raising flour, however, generally you won’t need to add in any baking powder, as the self-raising flour has the baking soda and cream of tartar already mixed into it.
