Description
Golden flax, also known as linseed, comes from the flax plant, which is cultivated for its seeds, fiber and flax oil. Used since ancient times, flax seed is renowned for its potential health benefits. Golden flax seeds contain essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Flax seed oil in particular contains ALA omega-3 fatty acids.

Golden flax seeds are also an excellent source of dietary fiber. Eating foods rich in dietary fiber is thought to slow digestion, which may help control blood sugar levels and keep you satisfied longer. Offering 6 grams of protein per each 3 tablespoon serving, flaxseeds are also a good source of iron and contain calcium and potassium.

Flaxseed can be eaten whole or ground, which makes the nutrients from golden flax seeds better available to the body. Ground flax can also be used as an egg substitute in baked goods. For each egg, combine 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal with 3 tablespoons water. Let sit for five minutes, then use the flax gel as you would an egg in pancakes, muffins, brownies, cookies, cakes and more.
